Diet, Exercise & Lifestyle
I stick to lots of protein and veggies and try not to eat so many carbs, even though carbs are my favorite. I eat healthy things like quinoa, and I add fresh juices to my diet to get extra vitamins.
My daily diet is very diverse. I don’t discriminate with food. I love mixing it up. This morning, I had an açaí bowl. For lunch, I had a salad with lots of chicken and sweet potato, but for dinner last night I had a quesadilla! It’s all about balance. I love indulging in food and I don’t think it’s something that you should deprive yourself of if it’s something you really love. As long as you throw in your greens! There’s a perfect 80 / 20 ratio that I follow.
I think it is really important to indulge on the holidays, I think that we all deserve that; I think that the more you worry, the more it’s a problem. I think everyone’s relationship with food is all about giving your body what it wants and what it needs. I think indulging is good and working out, too, for sure!
Martha Hunt’s Food Diary
Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner:
[It’s] lemon ricotta pancakes in the morning, sushi for lunch, a classic homemade bolognese for dinner, and a fruit cobbler with ice cream for dessert.
I’ll have Greek yogurt or eggs for breakfast, sushi for lunch, and salmon/chicken/or meat with vegetables and healthy carbs for dinner
Before A VS Show:
I eat more than usual [before a VS Fashion Show], because the workouts burn so many calories. Most of my snacks involve peanut butter or almond butter. I’m bad about eating my biggest meal at night; I know that’s not the healthiest thing to do
Post Workout Diet:
After workouts, I always try to eat protein right away, like a protein smoothie or an organic protein bar – you get them online.
Supplementation:
Also, I’ve been carrying vitamin supplements around with me – I take the Kora one and another collagen beauty one – I really think they make a difference. I’ll just put it in a bottle of water and shake it up. I feel better and I notice differences in my skin. It could just be in my head but that doesn’t really matter because I feel better regardless of if it is a placebo or not.
I’ve also been taking more supplements like vitamin B and D, which give me more of a natural boost of energy. And probiotics, I swear by probiotics. I love Primal Defense Probiotic Powder. You can just sprinkle a little in your yogurt in the morning, or over toast, or put it in your smoothie. It’s a great way to get probiotics into your routine.
Exercise
Workout Routine and Lifestyle
Switch it up. I notice the best results in my body and in my mind when I change my routine. It tricks your brain into having to connect to your body. When you end up doing the same exercise over and over again, you don’t see the results. I think it’s really important to challenge yourself and try new things. There was one point when I was stuck doing the same thing and I sort of plateaued and I didn’t feel like I was changing much. I was only doing it because I was comfortable and it was my routine, but as soon as I changed it, I immediately noticed results. Now, I work with a trainer and every time we work out, we do something different so that’s been a really important step for me.
Travel Fitness Routine
Fitness is very important to me because it helps give me a routine when I travel. It gives me one hour of ‘me’ time and passes the time when I’m lonely. Living with scoliosis serves as a constant reminder to keep my core and back strong. If I get lazy, I feel it in my back first.
Everyday Fitness
I do yoga almost daily. I try to fit in swimming and cycling when I can.
I try to keep it in a very low impact – I have scoliosis, so exercises can be really hard on my back, whether it’s too much running, jumping or boxing. I’ll do those things once in a while, but I keep it mostly Pilates, resistance-band based, softer exercises that build strength from inside the muscle.
I think workout clothes should be fun! I definitely don’t think I have to wear all black to work out. I would say I am more minimal in my personal style… but my workout style, anything goes.
Pre VS Fashion Show Workout
Last year I amped up the workouts leading up to the show. I probably worked out five times a week for three weeks. I don’t know if I will go that hard again!
Martha Hunt’s Beauty Secrets
Skin Care Routine
I do pay attention to the ingredients in products and I look them up before I ever the product. I make sure that quality ingredients are being used and sometimes the ingredients are confusing because there can be very scientific names or active ingredients but usually, there is enough science to back it up if it’s a product that I am going to use.
Morning Routine
I always wash my face, in the morning I just use Aveeno moisturizer and sometimes I use a face oil at night, my skin is really dry. I hardly wear makeup because I’m always in makeup for work, so I like to give my skin a break. I also love Rose-Marie Swift’s beauty products, RMS. They’re really nice cause they’re simple, you know where to put them. They’re not as bad for your skin. It just makes you look fresh rather than too done. It’s just the right highlighter here or a touch of color on the lip.
Evening Routine
My skin care routine is pretty simple, it’s all about more hydration. (She has dry skin).
- Starting with cleaning off the make up. I like using Bioderma Sensibio H2o.
- I am using a cream cleanser I’ve been using Luzern for forever. It’s my trusted go-to. They use really nice ingredients, and it just feels really soft and gentle on my skin.
- Serum, I have to wear serum. I like to worm them up with my hands and apply them in an upwards motion.
- Cle de Peau Beaute Intensive Fortifying Emulsion, I’m pretty sure that just means night cream.
- I am going to add this Georgia Louise Sleeping Beauty Oil and it has a lot of beautiful soothing ingredients.
- Georgia Louise – Lift + Sculpt Butterfly Stone to sculpt my face.
- CLÉ DE PEAU BEAUT Enhancing Eye Contour Cream Supreme and this is a sort of thick luxurious eye cream. I lightly tap it here and I use the excess on the fine lines of my forehead.
- LANEIGE Lip Sleeping Mask I do like this lip mask and I like it because you can sleep with it on and it really plumps up your lips, but also you can put make-up over the top of it and it stays.
- Mother Dirt AO+ Mist Skin Probiotic Spray I do a little spritz of probiotics and this helps restoring the ph of your skin.
Oxygen Treatments
This is me giving away all my secrets but I love an oxygen serum. I don’t even know if it works—maybe it’s a placebo thing—but it makes my skin feel so much plumper. My favorite serum is Knutek 100% Oxygen Plasma. And before the VS show, we get oxygen facials from Mzia Shiman. In general, my skin is dry so it helps me pump up the moisture level. I got an oxygen facial last night. They plump up the oxygen in your skin, which helps bring out the cheekbones and the lips.
Favourite Serum
A good serum. I like Earth Tu Face – it’s very hydrating and is perfect for planes. My skin tends to be on the dry side already so with the addition of travelling, it’s constantly dehydrated. It makes so much difference to my skin.
Sunscreen
I make sure to add in more SPF during the summer. Lately I’ve been using these Dr. Barbara Sturm drops that you just add into your regular moisturizer and they protect you from the sun all day. I stick to a similar skin care routine, which is washing my face every day and exfoliating once a week. I use fewer hydrating masks in the summer though because on the humidity on the East Coast is so strong, so I get a lot of extra hydration already.
Travelling: Skin Care Routine On The Go
During the summer, my skin looks great, but when the weather gets colder, I need to slather on things like Charlotte Tilbury’s Magic Cream and Decleor Oil. I’m like a lizard! So when I’m traveling, I like to have all of those with me on the plane. And the Colbert MD Sheet Masks. They instantly brighten me up.
Make Up
Basic Face Routine
I’m starting to get more into lipstick. I love the look, I just never felt sophisticated enough to wear it—I always felt like such a kid when I would wear it. There’s something about it that’s really dramatic. I did rock it not too long ago for the first time, doing it myself. I really liked it so maybe I’ll try it more. In general, my favorite would be a cat eye. That’s just simpler and I know how to do it. That’s my go-to. I like to use the [Elizabeth Arden] Eight Hour Cream and then smudge it a little bit. Then I’ll draw it on with a pencil. I saw a makeup artist do it on me and I liked it.
Glam Make-Up Routine
If I go out at night, I’ll really turn it out. I do the contour and concealer and cat eyeliner. I have a Tom Ford contour kit, RMS concealer, and my liquid liner by Kat Von D. It’s so good. I’ve tried everything because that’s the only makeup I do on myself, and that’s really the best. It’s really easy and lasts. Then I use Maybelline Great Lash. Never fails me.
Eyes
Because honestly, I think I’m fine without mascara. Sometimes I think mascara can age you, which sounds weird but you just have to be careful not to put on too much.
Browns
For brows, I use a Laura Mercier brow pencil in Blonde. It’s just a brush and then I soften it with my finger or a Q-tip.
Lips
I love a red lip, especially when I feel tired like today. When you throw on a red lip, you just immediately feel more confident. It adds a little pop to all of your features. The Revlon Love Is On Lipstick is what I’ve been using lately.
I’ll also do the same thing with lip liner—in like a natural color—I will use the Lip Cheat Charlotte Tilbury ones. I think the trick is to soften the line with your finger or a Q-Tip so it’s not such a hard line and it look more like a natural lip shade.
Contouring: Bronzer Highlighter
And a little bit of a contour… Charlotte Tilbury’s Filmstar Bronze and Glow or Kevin Aucoin’s Creamy Glow Duo are both great.
Hair Care
I use Olaplex in my hair once a week.
Signature Scent & Hygiene
I think you have to just go with whatever scent you immediately gravitate towards. I love the Michael Kors Sexy Ruby fragrance because I really like the woody notes – it’s perfect for a sexy night.

Recap
Martha Hunt masters the connection between mind and body. She focuses not only on her physical health but also on her mental health, making her a true role model. Put on some red lipstick to channel that Martha Hunt vibe.
“I think taking care of yourself physically is important because it also helps you mentally. I don’t work out just for physical reasons; I immediately feel better after a workout so I think it’s really important to fit that in. I think everyone should try and do some, even if it’s just 20 minutes or an hour a few times a week, it really makes a difference. I think it helps with depression, anxiety and all of that. I think that physical health will ultimately help your mental health.”
