    Diet

    Foodlover

“I love food more than anything… more than my family and friends and almost as much as my dog! Honestly, I could eat pasta every night, with tons of parmesan or a few white truffles thrown in (for a hundred dollars more!). I also love Japanese food and I always think I’m eating so clean… before I order a hundred different options! And I also adore my mother’s Peruvian food, which I grew up with, too, and of course, Danish cuisine. I always look forward to going home so I can bite into a real Danish; anything else is just pretending.”

“I’m not the kind of person who will limit myself to any kind of food. I could not live without bread and pasta. I eat real butter and drink whole milk. And I’m obsessed with Japanese food and Moroccan stews. So when I think about working out, yes, it’s good for the mind — but it’s also because I eat a hell of a lot of food.”

“I drink all sorts of juices I make myself—mixing cucumber, green and red peppers, aloe vera, parsley, mint, apple or pear. They make me feel refreshed and energized, and hopefully help to restore my skin from the inside.”

    Supplement

“I’ve been taking Lumity supplements for almost a year and I actually approached them [to work with them] because I love the supplements. Before, I was taking all these different vitamins in tiny little boxes, but I realised that Lumity contained a lot of the ingredients in one place and then a few more that I wanted to try. I was interested in turmeric and that’s in there, flaxseed – which I know is really healthy – and the basic vitamins too.

“We can all be low in vitamin D, for example, because we don’t get it as naturally anymore. We cover ourselves with sun lotions – or we should – and you really only get vitamin D from dairy products if you drink it literally out of the cow! So while people have all kinds of approaches to vitamins, and it’s totally up to them if they take them, I definitely feel better by having them.”

    Exercise

“To be quite honest, I wasn’t really into exercising until I realized I wanted to feel stronger and more athletic, so I started boxing about 12 years ago. Boxing challenges your reflexes, your speed, your mind…everything. Run for an hour and a half? That’s not me at all. But I like sprinting. I just started pole dancing as well. It’s incredibly hard, like doing vertical ballet.”

    Swimming

“I think cold water swimming is good for the soul, it’s good for the body. I mean, that circulation boost is incredible. We have a tendency to make everything more complicated and to go to the darkest corners of our minds and just look at everything from a very complex perspective. I go to so many dark places in my mind. But it really can be very simple if we just allow that to happen. If we just look at what’s around us.”

    Boxing

“I’ve been boxing and doing very intense workouts since my mid thirties. I wish I had started all of it earlier because it really is so great for your body physically, but also mentally. When you’re young, you’re going to parties and having late nights. But think about how beneficial it would have been had we done all this earlier, then the hangovers wouldn’t have been so bad! So I am absolutely grateful that I at least discovered something that I do enjoy and respond to physically. You can’t start early enough being in a close, beautiful and balanced relationship with yourself, your mind and body.”

    Yoga

“It took me years to get into yoga because I wasn’t into the whole spiritual thing. I didn’t want to go to a class and have to chant, though I know it helps so many people. I finally found a place where we get right into it, and I end up leaving completely re-energised and totally sweaty.”

    Connection To Mother Nature

“When you grow up in a Nordic country, you also grow up with stories of trolls, mermaids, berries and the fairytale side of nature,” she says. “I feel really connected to that. I think I was meant to live in nature and just roam around out there in the forest. Nature has always been there and is the answer to so many of our mental and physical issues. I can talk about this for days, but really the primal basic idea of how we coexist with nature is for me the most important part of my life. So that’s why I jump in the freezing river!”

    Beauty Secrets

    Skin Care Routine

“I used to hardly do anything for my skin, but then I started getting more and more excited about my products in my early 30s. I’m working with a South African skin product brand that is fucking amazing. It’s called Nimue—it’s insane, my favourite is the Nimue Skin Technology Rejuvenating Mask. They don’t sell in America right now, but I’m doing a three-month trial with them. I love their Exfoliating Enzyme, so I will use that with the Joanna Vargas Vitamin C Face Wash, which is really good. Then, Angela Caglia’s Dream Exfoliant Mask and Detox Serum are so beautiful.

Evanhealy’s French Rose Clay Mask is so good, too. I also use their Nourishing Eye Balm. Then, there is SPF, which I only started using later in life. Back then we would put oil on and would just sit out, it was crazy. Now I’m using Nimue Sun-C because not only does it protect you, but it feels incredible.

I’ve been pushing myself to go to facials more because it really makes a difference. So I go to Joanna Vargas, who is wonderful. I really look forward to our sessions because we can talk forever, but the actual treatment is also amazing. I sent a few girlfriends there from Denmark, and they came out feeling super invigorated and fresh-looking. Maybe once a year, I’ll go to Christine Chin for full extractions of whatever is in there.”

    Skin Care Cocktail

“I have always believed in mixing up your products and surprising your skin. This is also my approach to how I work out: surprise your body, surprise your muscles and keep mixing it up so that your body gets the reaction.”

    Cleanser

“My face cleanser is from an amazing Danish brand, Sard, and I exfoliate with coffee grounds mixed with the Lumity Skin Nutrients Facial Oil. I save the grounds every time I grind the beans and use it to exfoliate my body and face – the rest I give to my plants. I really love exfoliating – the feeling of the little granules wakes your skin up.”

    Serums and Oils

“I am obsessed with serums and oils. I put them on my face, my chest, shoulders, hands, elbows, knees, belly. Whatever is left in my hands, after using it on my face, I use on those parts as well.”

    Face Masks

“If I’m at home working, I will go through quite a few masks before I do anything else. Exfoliating masks, hydrating masks, deep pore masks… anything that actively does something to your skin that you can leave on for a while. I always see a change when I take them off.  I am in love with The Exceptional Chronobiology Sleep Mask. It feels velvety and rich, and I wake up with soft baby skin. But also it feels good to touch your skin, to massage it and to stimulate and activate the blood flow and lymphatic drainage.”

Marijuana THC vs CBD, CBG, CBN: What’s the difference? What are health benefits of each?

    Anti-Inflammatory Skin Care

“For many years I’ve been interested in how inflammation causes so many of the health issues within our bodies and how important it is to keep inflammation as low as possible. I immediately jumped at the chance of working with a skincare company that focuses on that and uses CBG, a more rare form of the cannabinoid, and a highly potent anti-inflammation ingredient.”

    Healthy Glowing Skin

“Having skin that is dewy and shiny is way more beautiful than putting on layers of foundation and powder. I learned that in my early twenties doing those incredible photoshoots with Peter Lindbergh and his insanely talented team of hair and makeup people, where I absolutely could see the difference from using glossy products and using your fingers to add it on. A face is interesting when your skin is still showing – you know, all the beautiful little freckles and skin texture. You do have makeup on, but it’s used in a way that only enhances your own features.”

    MakeUp Routine

“On a daily basis, for makeup, I wear foundation and concealer. I have a really good Armani foundation, and a concealer from Nars that I like—I have quite a bit of Nars. The Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation I just put on with a Beautyblender. Then I’ll do the Charlotte Tilbury Bronze and Glow or the Marc Jacobs Glow Stick to highlight my collarbones, legs, shoulder, and arms. Again, I have to have lipstick. I love Chanel lipsticks. Especially the push pen in Les Fascinantes, or Marc Jacobs in Understudy—it’s the only light lipstick I like.

I typically use a little bit of blush, like this one from Kjaer Weis. It’s so precious, you take better care of it. The packaging is beautiful, and then you can just buy the refills. I think that’s how all beauty companies should be because otherwise you throw out so much. But I love blush.

Whether it’s a lipstick or an actual blush or a lip tint, you can bring just that and you’re good. If I’m going out, I like to add a little smudgy eyeliner or a red lip. I like the Marc Jacobs Highliners for a smudgy eye, mostly because you don’t need to keep sharpening them. I always love when you come home from a party and you start taking your makeup off and it looks great when it’s all mushed around, so I’ll use a brush to smudge it out. Then I’ll use the RMS Eye Polish in anything taupe or golden and that’s it.”

    Add Some Color

“I’m absolutely obsessed with red lips [below Helena is wearing Lisa Eldridge Velvet Ribbon]. I think the idea that we can put this vibrant tone in the middle of our face and that it is absolutely okay – it’s really such a radical thought. For a quick fix, though, Chanel Rouge Allure Velvet in La Fascinante is a red lipstick that never lets me down.”

    Highlighter

“Because I’m a photographer the way light hits your skin is something that I’m really aware of. When you look through a lens and are doing portraits of someone, you really notice the way the face moves and how the natural light from above hits the parts of your face – the cheek bones, the curve of your upper lip, the bridge of your nose and the colour in your eyes. You can also add a lip balm to your cheeks and eyelids. You get a gorgeous highlight from that – far better than literally highlighters.”

    Beauty Tips By Helena Christensen

    Sleeping Beauty

“I think good, quality sleep is one of the easiest and most important ways to pamper yourself. I can really feel the difference when I go to bed early and sleep soundly all the way through.”

    Must Haves

“Adding Lumity to my daily routine has helped keep my skin nourished especially during hectic travel schedules and because the supplements come in two small bottles it makes traveling light so much easier. I also make room in my bag for Joanna Vargas Skincare Vitamin C Face Wash, La Prairie Cellular Radiance Perfecting Fluide Pure Gold and Strangelove silencethesea Eau de Parfum.”

    Silk Pillows

“I also sleep on silk pillows, as I often sleep on my side. They keep your face smooth and feel really soft.”

    YOUR Pillowcase

    Hair Care

“My hair is very good for the [modeling] business as it’s easy to work with and has a dry texture. But in real life all of that doesn’t work. To keep it healthy, I’ve been using pure coconut oil as a mask, and I will leave it in for hours or all day if I’m working from home. Then I might spray in some leave-in conditioner or a little hair serum. I love Oribe, Serge Normant, and Sam McKnight’s new line. The Serge Normant Meta Sheer Dry Oil Finishing Spray is great.”

    Body Care

“I was going to show you my perfume because my friend and I have this company called Strange Love. Our creative director made these necklaces so that girls could carry their fragrances around their necks. I just love the image of memories and how fragrance triggers that. Since I was in my early teens I was into antique perfume bottles and that’s kind of where this idea came from—having this thing hanging around your neck with a photo of your loved one. We base all our scents on pure oud. It’s absolutely hypnotic, you don’t go anywhere wearing this without people saying something. I love Narciso Rodriguez scents and Cacharel, or Grey Flannel by Geoffrey Bean.”

    Recap

Helena Christensen is not only beautiful from the outside but also from the inside. She is very transparent when it comes to her beauty routine. We all have a lot to learn from her.

“Fashion isn’t very nostalgic, but on occasion, the young guard feels inspired by us. It’s pleasant because it gives meaning to the work that you’ve done. Being a model is such an odd job, and it doesn’t last long, so much of it is about youth. So it’s great when your work can become part of this larger story that we’re all writing together.”

5 Inspirational Quotes By Helena Christensen

    Be Yourself

“No one ever came up to me and said: “You need to reshape your body, to lose weight, or to be more outgoing, or less outgoing”. We were just allowed to be us, and I think at the end of the day, isn’t that the whole point of being a human being? To be allowed to be yourself, to be accepted the way you are?”

    Food

“I believe food is the most brilliant invention ever.”

    Born In High Heels

“I was born in high heels and I’ve worn them ever since.”

    Elegance and Beauty

“There will always be a desire for something new, fresh and innovative, as well as a yearning and respect for timeless elegance and beauty.”

    Strangers

“I find it utterly bizarre that total strangers write about your life in a completely fictional manner.”
